DIY Upcycled Doily Holiday Wreath ~ What you'll need:
- Bamboo hoop
- Doily {sized to fit your bamboo hoop}
- Recycled fabric {repurpose an old dress or check your local thrift store}
- String
- Scissors
Step 1: Place your doily inside the bamboo hoop.
Step 2: Cut lengths of string to secure the doily to the hoop. Start by threading and tying the string at the top {12 o’clock} and bottom {6 o’clock} of the hoop.
Step 3: Repeat the process by tying the string at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock.
Step 4: Continue tying the doily to the hoop at even intervals around its entire edge to keep it taut and secure.
Step 5: Tear your recycled fabric into strips.
Step 6: Wrap the shredded fabric strips around the outer edge of the hoop, securing them tightly as you go.
Step 7: Tie additional fabric strips to the outer edge of the hoop, letting them dangle down. Continue until the bottom half is full and evenly covered.
Step 8: Create a fabric “hook” by tying a strip at the top of the hoop to hang your wreath.
Step 9: Add more dangling fabric strips around the hoop, spacing them evenly.
Step 10: Trim any uneven or frayed pieces of fabric to neaten up your wreath.
Step 11: Tie bows with fabric strips at regular intervals around the hoop for added charm.
Step 12: Cut any longer fabric pieces that aren’t tied into bows into shorter, angled ends for a polished look.
Step 13: Use more fabric strips to weave through the center of the doily for extra texture. Secure each piece with a knot and repeat as desired. {Optional: add a personal touch with extra decorations like ribbons, dried flowers, or festive embellishments}.
Step 14: Once you’re happy with your design, find the perfect spot to display your Doily Holiday Wreath!
Enjoy your handmade holiday creation!
